Beaulieu-2011_62In 2010 the ClassicIndex.eu team concentrated on workshops and clubs, which are, without doubt, the core of the classic car scene and important to us to raise the website's profile in the UK. The results are tangible – have a look at the report Classic Car Holiday in Britain. But is it sensible to drive to England in search of classic vehicle spares? The answer depends naturally on each individual need. What we do know, however, is that the International Auto Jumble, held annually in Beaulieu near Southampton and the Goodwood Revival, are two events that we would class as "must visit". We were there again this year.

Many specialists are already taking part successfully in the ClassicIndex project, but, unfortunately, there is still a large information gap in the website, particularly in England, whether for British classics or for other makes and models. This is true as equally for spare part suppliers as for bodyshops, rost protection, interior trim or tool suppliers. In that respect, the International Auto Jumble was extremely impressive. And we managed to convince a number of British spares suppliers to join us on the website. Many others displayed great interest in the site and we hope that they will join us soon.

As well as spare parts there were also vehicle on offer, with prices that would appeal to all wallets. For example, we considered that the auction selling price in the Bonhams' Auction was very low. Some of the vehicles on offer had quite obviously been buried under hay bales! We had assumed (wrongly, of course) that all the items on auction would be fully restored, "better than new" vehicles.

Our itinerary was to take us to the Goodwood Revival directly from The Auto Jumble visitors and stall holders also lived up to it's title and were truly international. There were a large number of French, Dutch and German stalls. Also represented were firms from the USA, India, Sweden and Spain, who offered a wide range of goods and services.

Beaulieu-2011_150Bieulieu, so, naturally we were especially interested in period clothing. There was a wide range of items on offer, particularly for ladies; much more in fact than on the continent. Cabrio drivers and passengers could find classic flying helmets and matching fleece-lined leather flying jackets. Examples of offers are on our page "Accessories and Gift Ideas".

We were very impressed in England by the range of what was on offer, bBeaulieu-2011_154oth in major Classic Car events like the International Motor Jumble and in the neighbouring towns. British enthusiasts don’t just dress up – they “live the dream”. Just have a look at the “Goodwood Revival 2011” report.

This event was in every extent worth visiting. The weather could have been better (another British national sport is complaining about the weather!), but it was no worse than this year’s so called “summer” on the continent. The British would say it was “changeable”, or “not cabrio-weather”! However, the weather was no obstacle to a superb day out and the many thousands of visitors paid testimony to that. On the roads and in the villages and towns all around Bieulieu we met many wonderful, like-minded and, above all, totally friendly people. And, of course there were very impressive vehicles accompanying them.
