Many classic car owners are asked the question - „Oh that car is really old, must you do many repairs?" or " Do you do everything yourself?" Of course I don't know what personal experiences you have had. My wife and I use our classic cars a lot. Because of this, two of our "oldies"do not have the traditional German "H" (for historic) registration. Even so, I have only needed to use my holiday recovery insurance (Like the AA) once in the past 21 years. In fact we have had to use our so called classics cars to tow our "modern" ones several times, usually due to electronic system faults! Even when LUCAS suddenly becomes the "Lord of Darkness" in a classic car, the causes of the electrical fault are quite limited. The other automotive parts are usually quite reliable. However, reliability does come at a price and that is regular maintenance, such as lubricating and replacing worn out parts. Your (modern) current car will probably never survive as long as the blue Morris Minor pictured above (picture courtesy of the "Minor Matters", official magazine of the British MORRIS MINOR OWNERS CLUB). Although the front suspension here was certainly not delicate, the problems occurred because the owner forgot to grease regularly. There is no reminder in the dashboard to take your car for a service or change the oil. This is something that you the owner must do yourself. You can see from the picture below that such things can also happen to newer cars. Even very reliable vehicles cannot be guaranteed "breakdown-free". In this case, the Mercedes dealer only 1.5 km distant was pleased to help the hapless driver. If, however, you had a similar problem nearby with your Jaguar or MG, for example, the 4 km distant garage "British Cars" (details solely available on www.british-classic.eu) would have been pleased to come to the rescue. In the local telephone directory the garage can be found only under "K" = Andre Kessemeier - BRITISH CARS DETMOLD, if you know his last name.
