fiatIt is still really quite cold in Northern Europe, but rising temperatures allowed us to think about taking our first trip of the year with our classic car. Cabrio owners will have to wait a little longer, I think, especially if their vehicle is "getting on a bit" and there is no heater! Praised be what hardens you!
Of course being patient is very difficult and the first relatively warm and sunny early spring days call us to our first outing of the year. Warmly clothed with scarf and suitable headdress, you can of course banish the first of the annual sniffles.......on the other hand you might come back with a tickly throat and speak very quietly for a few days. Did the same thing happen last year perhaps?

My wife is prescient in these matters (are not all of the fairer gender?) and never comes with me on the first trip of the year! But even in summer, on the trip to and from a classic car event, she prefers a proper roof and windows closed for a draft-free journey. Of course my view that warm feet and a cool head are exactly the right medicine is not considered correct. Suggestions to find a hat to suit both partner and motor car are rebuffed. Excuses are always presented such as "it will ruin my hairstyle", or "it will give me a headache". Even matching hat and goggles are turned down - I wonder why? A silly and difficult situation. What to do about it?

I found a short article in a classic car magazine which provided us with a perfect solution. A hooded scarf covers the head and neck, protecting both areas from cold and drafts. We found different designs that look good, fit perfectly and don't ruin the hairstyle. If it gets colder, this form of "top cover" also helps to keep the top of the body comfortable, while the heat generated by the gearbox keeps the lower regions warm. We have found many designs ranging from plain to tartan to colourful flower patterns. Thus classic car owners can join the "hoody generation" in their own inimitable way!

Of course this is only our opinion. Your own perception of what is appropriate clothing and headdress for classic car outings might be completely different. My wife, however is very happy.
She now even tolerates that fact that the "old Brit" is completely without its own top cover. We are, however, still on the lookout for suitable eye protection, since the little Austin A7 unfortunately also doesn't have a windscreen! We found this supplier of hooded scarves suitable for our own needs. You will find a link to the site here.
However the solution we found might not be the most appropriate for your or your partner's "top cover" problems (hats, scarves, goggles etc). If you click here, you will be directed to our page "Accessories and Gift Ideas", where you can find alternative suppliers. Here you will also find hats, caps and other "goodies".

The items illustrated in the photographs above are supplied by a company called „BECKER CLASSIC LINE". So one way or another you are sure to find something to suit your needs

stanley3However, you may not need  top cover for yourself, your wife, or passengers, but something to protect your little "jewel in the crown". The firm Classic Car Covers offers classic car owners protection for this year's and future winter hibernations or for simply parking outdoors at home, on trips or at events. You will find more information here.
